“Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will
find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11.28-30.
Our camp pastor stood in front of us, and most of the time, he talked like a camp pastor. This
time, though, as he read this invitation from Jesus, something was different about him.
Something was ever so softer. It was still him, the camp preacher, but there was a calmness and
peacefulness that I’d not seen before.
I was drawn in as he spoke simply and plainly about the livable reality of a life of rest.
Our pastor knew we were exhausted. Our bodies were beat, our minds were conflicted, and we
were weary from the relentless inner struggle of right and wrong, faith and doubt, abstinence and excess, grace and truth.
In these next days, we’ll explore the beauty of soul rest. Scripture will be our foundation. You’ll
also hear stories of true peace and contentment and stories where rest seems to be elusive.
Like my camp pastor, I’m inviting you to learn how to live and love from a place of rest. Just as
you are, right where you are.
Come and see.
